Cal Bruner was named the 2007 REALTOR® of the Year by the Southern Midlands Association of REALTORS® (SMAR). Marion Moore, President of CENTURY 21 The Moore Group presented a plaque to Cal at the SMAR luncheon in early January 2008. Cal served as SMAR's President during 2007, and was cited for his hard work in maintaining a democratic association, fostering teamwork, participation and encouraging new ideas. He was commended for maintaining the association's bylaws, leading a number of successful community service projects such as the Keys to a Cure campaign, annual food and toy drives, and a monetary donation to the Edisto Chapter of the American Red Cross.

OK, enough serious stuff. Cal and Marion have been working together selling Orangeburg for eons. While rearranging his office recently, Cal unearthed the photo at bottom right from his DJ days in the mid-eighties. Look at those baby faces!

Lauren Dawkins of CENTURY 21The Moore Group was named the January 2008 honoree for the character trait of "Good Manners" as a part of Orangeburg County's Community of Character initiative. "Good manners really speak a lot about a person's persona, their upbringing and how they treat others," said Lauren after receiving the award. "How they support and give to others pretty much gives an insight into one's nature and capabilities. You're basically judged not just on an outwardly aspect, but in the way that you treat others respectfully."

Herb Bradley of CENTURY 21 The Moore Group has recently completed 40 hours of instruction with the Clemson University Cooperative Extension Service to become a Master Gardener Intern. Once he completes 40 hours of volunteer work in the community, he will receive the full South Carolina Master Gardener designation. The Master Gardener program was designed to use the services of trained volunteers with horticultural knowledge and a willingness to share that knowledge with others. The program started in Seattle in 1972 and is now active in every state, the District of Columbia and five Canadian provinces. South Carolina adopted the Master Gardener program in 1981 in Charleston County. The program has been a tremendous success and is now active in over half of South Carolina's counties.

Congratulations to "Itchy" for winning The Times & Democrat's 2008 Pet Idol contest. A female Rottweiler mix, Itchy belongs to Alice Hutto, a Sales Associate at CENTURY 21 The Moore Group. Itchy was the beloved pet of Alice's daughter, Kristy Hutto, who was killed in an automobile crash in September 2007. Kristy was a generous, caring person, an emergency medical worker who devoted her life to caring for others. Now that she's gone, Alice has this gentle, sweet-dispositioned dog as a reminder of her daughter. The T&D sponsors the Pet Idol contest each year, with the proceeds going to Newspapers in Education.
