Community Overview
Why is Orangeburg County such a wonderful place to live, work, play and raise a family?
Located between Charleston and Columbia, we enjoy quick access to “big city” conveniences while living in an area of unsurpassed natural beauty. This is a place where it’s easy to get away from it all without ever having to leave home. From our moss-draped oak trees; abundant golf courses; lakes stocked with bass, bream, catfish and trout; extensive forests, to the numerous cultural opportunities available, it is easy to take a breather from the rat race whenever you choose. Some residents choose to work in Charleston or Columbia, but Orangeburg is home to more than 100 manufacturers and distributors and has seven industrial parks, so local employment opportunities abound. Commuting times and traffic are minimal. The people here exhibit that Southern charm and grace for which our state is famous. Some folks just never find the need to leave, but if you do want to explore farther afield, Myrtle Beach is only about 2 hours away and the mountains of western North Carolina are about 2.5 hours away. Orangeburg is home to a municipal airport, and Columbia Metropolitan Airport is less than an hour away.
